Hello! I'm Sophia Brown, a dedicated and passionate Scratch programming instructor from the vibrant community of North Providence, RI. With a zest for making education both enjoyable and intellectually stimulating, I've committed the last six years to teaching children the wonders of coding through Scratch. My mantra is that learning should be fun – and I bring this energy into each class, encouraging kids to explore the vast possibilities that coding offers.
I believe that every child has the unique potential to become a creator, innovator, or even a future leader in technology. My mission is to unlock their creativity and boost their confidence by guiding them through the fun-filled process of creating their own games and projects.
Career History:
Having discovered my love for technology and education early in my career, I embarked on a journey to share this passion with the younger generation. I hold a degree in Computer Science with a minor in Education, which provided me a solid foundation for becoming a Scratch coding instructor. I have worked in various educational settings, from public schools to private coding camps, before setting up my unique coding classes in North Providence.
Expertise:
My expertise lies in Scratch programming, a platform designed specifically to help kids learn the fundamentals of coding in an engaging and interactive way. I have cultivated an in-depth understanding of how children learn and have tailored my curriculum to be flexible, allowing for the individual growth and learning pace of each student.
Q: What ages do you teach?
A: I teach children ages 7 to 14, which is an ideal range for grasping Scratch programming concepts and building upon them.
Q: How do you personalize your teaching approach?
A: Personalization is key in my classes. I assess each child's skill level and interest, then adapt my lessons to ensure they are both challenged and intrigued. I also provide one-on-one sessions for those who need extra attention.
Q: Can you tell us about some projects your students have completed?
A: Certainly! My students have created everything from basic animated stories to complex interactive games. Some notable projects include an Earth Day-themed recycling game and a math puzzle adventure that teaches arithmetic in a fun context.
