About Liam Smith

Hello! I'm Liam Smith, your friendly neighborhood coding instructor from Princeton, WV. My passion lies in sparking curiosity and creativity among young minds through the fascinating world of coding. With a belief that learning should be fun and interactive, I focus on introducing your children to the development of games and projects using Scratch and Roblox, two platforms perfect for budding programmers.

Since I began teaching three years ago, my goal has been to demystify the complexities of coding and make it accessible and enjoyable for kids of all ages. I love witnessing the moment a child's eyes light up as their virtual worlds come to life!

Career History

My foray into coding began in college, where I majored in Computer Science. Soon after graduating, I realized my skill set wasn't just for building software in a corporate environment but also for enabling the next generation to navigate and innovate in the digital world.

Initially, I volunteered at local schools, running after-class coding clubs that quickly gained popularity. This experience has transcended into a rewarding career, where I’ve dedicated the last three years to teaching Scratch and Roblox classes full-time to children around Princeton.

Expertise

With over three years of experience under my belt, I excel in simplifying complex concepts like game logic, design, and animation to make them child-friendly. I am well-versed in:

Scratch: A block-based visual programming language and online community targeted primarily at children. Using Scratch, I teach my students the fundamentals of programming, logical reasoning, and problem-solving.

Roblox: A global platform that brings people together through play. Roblox is an excellent tool for teaching students about game design and scripting with Lua, enhancing their creativity and coding skills while having tons of fun.

FAQs

Q: What ages do you teach?
A: I teach a range of ages, typically from 7 to 14 years old. Scratch is ideal for beginners, while Roblox suits those looking to up their game.
Q: Do students need any prior coding knowledge?
A: Not at all! My classes cater to all levels. I guide each student from the ground up, ensuring they understand the basics before moving on to more complex projects.
Q: How can I track my child’s progress?
A: I provide regular updates and showcase their projects, so you can see first-hand what your child is learning and creating.
Q: Are your classes online or in-person?
A: I offer both! Depending on your preference, I can conduct sessions at a local venue in Princeton or through a secure online platform.
