About:

Hello! I’m Evelyn Johnson, a passionate coding instructor dedicated to inspiring young minds in South Burlington, VT. Over the past 8 years, I have had the joy of introducing children to the exciting world of coding through Scratch and Roblox. I firmly believe that learning should be an adventure filled with creativity and enjoyment, which is evident in every class I teach. My aim is to spark a love for technology that could lead to a lifelong interest or career.

Teaching Journey:

My journey as an educator began after I noticed a gap in interactive learning opportunities for kids in the digital age. I decided to use my coding expertise to create a learning environment where kids could not only learn computational thinking but also have a blast while doing it. Throughout these 8 years, I have honed my teaching style to ensure that each student feels supported and challenged. Watching my students' eyes light up as they bring their ideas to life is a reward unlike any other.

Specializations:

One of my key specializations is tailoring lessons for every skill level. For beginners, we start with the basics of Scratch, gradually moving towards more complex concepts and game mechanics. Once they're ready, we venture into the expansive universe of Roblox, where students transition from players to creators, designing their own games and interactive experiences. I'm adept at breaking down complicated coding principles into digestible, fun activities.

Another area of focus is online safety and digital citizenship. While fostering their technical skills, I also emphasize the importance of being responsible and respectful creators and gamers. My goal is to prepare my students not just to excel in coding, but to be mindful and ethical users of technology.

FAQs:

Q: At what age can children start learning to code with you?

A: I welcome kids starting as young as 7, as Scratch is quite beginner-friendly. However, if you have a younger child eager to learn, let's discuss how we can accommodate them.

Q: Do you offer group classes or one-on-one sessions?

A: Both! I provide group classes that encourage collaborative learning, as well as private sessions for focused, personalized instruction.

Q: What do students need to begin learning Scratch and Roblox with you?

A: Students will need a computer with internet access, and I will guide them through setting up any necessary free accounts and software.
